http://www.tate.org.uk/art/artists/john-wells-2130 I've recently been browsing the library, and have came across a book based on an exhibition by John Wells called The Fragile Cell. The book title stood out to me instantly because my work surrounds ideas relating to the fragility of human beings, especially our minds, therefore I questioned whether Wells works were related to a similar meaning. After working as a doctor until he was 38 and became an artist, I question whether Wells saw something in humans so predominant, that led him to become an artist and explore his findings visually. Within the book it states "The notion of a cell representing the artist confined in his studio is augmented by the scientific analogy that reflects his professional training; he saw the delicate nature of the cellular structure as symbolic of fragile human existence." This is a very interesting point, and Wells seems to make his work particularly fragile using string and thin metal to enhance them points and continue to explore the fragility of human life.
